In Memoriam Leo Cleyman
ma. 8 sep. Leo Cleyman (21/03/1931 – 01/09/2025)
BDC learned of Leo's passing.

We know him as a very sporty man who brought warmth with his smile and friendship.

He was a member of KDS Antwerp for many years (1958-1981 and 1992-1996). He also held board positions as former chairman of Royal Deaf Sports Antwerp (1975-1977) and vice-chairman (1973-1975), and later as a committee member/director (1992-1996).

Leo was an excellent swimmer and won no fewer than 14 individual and 6 relay titles at the Belgian championships:
  • 400 m freestyle ('64 + '73)
  • 100 m breaststroke ('60 - '62 - '63 - '64 - '67 - '69 + '73)
  • 200 m breaststroke ('62 - '63 - '67 + '69)
  • 100 m butterfly ('66)
  • relay ('60 - '61 - '62 twice - '64 + '69).

In athletics, he also won the national title in shot put ('63) and javelin ('59 + '64).

He was also a very gifted man and was also involved with the Helen Keller Club (Deaf and Blind), serving as chairman, among other things.

We will miss him and wish his daughter Nadine and family much strength during this difficult time.
