18-year-old Leendert Desmet took part in the Belgian Swimming Championships. This took place in Antwerp's Wezenberg swimming pool during the weekend of 26 to 28 July 2024.
He became the first deaf swimmer in the youth championships (-17-18 yrs) to win a gold medal in the 1,500m freestyle with a great time : 16:42.40.
Besides, he also won a silver medal in the 400m medley with a time 4:48.50.
