BDC learned of the sudden passing of Marc D'Hondt, a member of K.D.S. Antwerp and a great sportsman who was especially passionate about cycling.
He participated twice in the Deaflympics:
- 1985 Los Angeles (USA): there he won a gold medal in the team time trial.
- He also took 4th place in the Sprint and 8th place in the time trial.
- 1989 in Christchurch (New Zealand): at achieved 5th place in the road race, 7th place in the sprint and 8th place in the points race.
He also participated in several World Championships:
- Caen (France) 1979 : GOLD and World Champion in the sprint;
- Lauwe (Belgium) 1980 : 2nd place and SILVER in the sprint and 12th place in the time trial;
- Lyngby (Denmark)1982 : 4th place in the time trial, 5th place in the road race;
- Nimes (France) 1983 : 6th place in the time trial and sprint, plus 7th place in the road race.
European Championships:
- 1st European Championships in Volketswil (Switzerland) 1988 : there he took 5th place in both the road race and the time trial, along with 8th place in the sprint.
He also became Belgian road champion 4 times in 1978, 1984, 1985 and 1991.
He was also active in football with one international selection for the Belgian national team (24.05.1977 Belgium - Switzerland) as goalkeeper. Also with K.D.S. Antwerp, as a goalkeeper, he became 4 times national champion in 1979 - 1981 - 1982 and 1983 and also won the Cup of Belgium in 1978 - 1980 - 1981 and 1982.
He was also a talent in athletics : here he became 1 x Belgian Javelin Throwing Champion in 1976.
Occasionally, he also competed in cross-country running and volleyball.
