In Memoriam Michel Francois
Thu 29 Feb It is with sadness that the Belgian Deaf sport Committee learns of the death of Mr Michel Francois (10/12/1935 - 26/02/2024).
Michel passed away after a long illness and he was a very social person who started in sports with a rich record.

After his sports career, he was very committed in the social deaf world and founded several associations.

The Farewell Ceremony takes place on Saturday 02.03.2024 - 09.00 h. in the Christian Community of Jette - Chaussée de Jette, 448, 1090 Jette.

Sports achievements


  •  Deaflympics 1957 Milan: Bronze medal Tennis individual, Double Tennis men 5th place;
  •  Deaflympics 1961 Helsinki: individual + double Tennis;
  •  European Championships 1967 Brussels: Tennis Double Mixed Silver, Individual + Double Men 4th place;
  •  20x Belgian Tennis Champion (11 individual, 5 double men and 4 double mixed);
  •  6 selections Dresse Cup Tennis;
  •  2 x Belgian Chess Champion in the 1960- 1961 season; 
  •  1 x Belgian Football Champion with Woluwe SSB in 1953;
  •  Bronze medal Sports Merit 1972 through the Belgian Royal House;
  •  Lifetime Achievement Award Belgian Deaf sports Committee in 2018

The Belgian Deaf sports Committee extend our sincere condolences to his children Brigitte, Jeff, Marie-Therese, Pierre and the entire François family.

 Michel, you have earned your rest after your long struggle!
