Introduction:
Koninklijke Sporting Kring Doven Brugge is pleased to host its 95th anniversary with a record number of participating teams from as many as 4 diverse countries Germany, Italy, France and Belgium for this International Petanque Tournament.
For the first time more than 3 countries are represented and for first time participants from Germany and Italy are present!
For more than 35 years, France has been the only country with Belgium that plays this sport on a regular basis. And thanks to the organization by our club in 2023 with the first European Cup Petanque (for national teams) making Petanque has now become an official sport within European Deaf Sport Organization, we note that there is currently already in 10 European countries interest in this sport.
Petanque has already been practiced within Belgian Deaf sport Committee since 1985 in Belgium, mainly in Wallonia (French-speaking Belgium), and since 1989 also in Flanders. Since the beginning there were also many tournaments with clubs from France. On 10.05.1997 the first international Belgium - France took place in Estampuis, followed by some more including against Spanish Catalonia since 13.04.2004 and later also with a club from Switzerland (Vaudois).
The organizing club Royal Sporting Kring Doven Brugge has also been a club with always many petanque players since the 1990s. They have this to thank for their own 10 courts mated to their local “Den Arend”.
The first day of play “Doubles” will be played on 19.04.2025; from 9:30 am; on the major grounds of PC De Gulden Kamer. We would like to sincerely thank this club for their cooperation, a cooperation of many years, because many of our deaf players also play in this valid club. There will be no less than 100 participants divided over more than 50 teams!
The second playing day “Triplets” on 20.04.2025; from 9:30 am will be played on our own courts mating to their local “Den Arend”. Some extra courts were specially constructed due to the large number of entries.
This organization would not have been possible without the cooperation of our own members who volunteered but also with the above mentioned clubs but also PC De Gulden Kamer and Petanque Federatie Vlaanderen.
But especially the support of Sport Vlaanderen and the City of Bruges is of great importance for this organization to take place.
The City of Bruges is an exceptional location for this event and belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage. We therefore wish all participants from Europe as well as the many supporters a great time in this beautiful Bruges!
On behalf of the organization,
