After 3 days of racing, Renaat was able to finish the World Championship in the ‘Hansa 303’ class with an honourable 17th place out of 22 competitors from 12 countries.
Renaat can look back on a successful World Championship, especially when you know that this is the very first time a deaf Belgian was able to compete in an international deaf championship in 100 years of deaf sport.... He can proudly look back on a successful World Cup, where he was able to meet many people who share the same passion for this beautiful sport, sailing.
This World Cup was organised for the 3rd time, since its inception in 2018. This World Cup took place in Nida, a small town located on the sea in Lithuania, near Kaliningrad.
In this ‘Hansa 303’ class, you are on your own, you alone have full control of the boat and you have to complete the same course in every race. So whoever arrives first in each race scores points. The first person to arrive gets one point, the second gets 2 points, and so on.... So whoever gets the fewest points, after a series of races, is the champion.
Winner was Turkey, then the silver medal went to Poland and the bronze medal to Japan.
The World Cup is a very fine organisation, the local organising committee doing its utmost to make every sailor's stay enjoyable.
Thanks to all the supporters who followed Renaat from a distance!
